I describe myself as a change junkie who actually thrives on change as opposed to avoiding it. This propensity for keeping things fresh and changing it up has led to a life filled with many diverse experiences and connections. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up, so as a result I have tried many things and have had tons of rich experiences (and still do). I always encourage others to do the same, especially kids who may be thinking they have to have it all figured out before college. Trust me, you don’t have to know yet, it’s ok!
Despite having had many different ‘jobs” I categorize my working life into two main careers; Aviation/STEM Technology and Education (teaching). I have held different titles within those career fields as well (Aviation Electricians Mate, Electronics Tech, Comm tech, ESL Teacher, SPED Teacher, etc.). After I survived teaching in a school during COVID I knew that yet another change was on the horizon. I knew I still wanted to work in education, but potentially not in a school. So, I kept researching, reading, thinking, meditating and eventually bit by bit I knew I had a plan brewing. The most exciting part was that this plan combined my two careers into one!
I had heard about a kids teaching platform where teachers could post and teach (for money) any type of class they wanted (within certain guidelines of course) and potentially work as a freelance teacher from home. This sort of thing had become more popular since Covid and was really catching on, so I figured I’d give it a shot. On a whim I created a class all about airplanes for kids to learn about the basic parts pf a plane and some basics about how they fly. I had other classes, but the only ones that took off were my aviation classes. After the first one was a hit, I started adding more. Then I realized, hey, I think I may be onto something here… and thus my business was launched. I now run an in-person summer camp and afterschool club called “Aspiring Aviators Club” of Long Island.
It has been so fun watching kids get so excited about learning and airplanes. I have loved being back in the aviation world and even work at the Cradle of Aviation Museum as the Assistant Director of Aviation as well. Being back into the aviation scene as well as learning all about Long Island’s long standing contributions to aviation and space accomplishments has gotten me so excited to share this with other people, so I decided to start a blog to do just that.
I hope you stop by often to read about the exciting world of Aviation, STEM, and education. I plan to write about significant aviation events on or near Long Island, STEM activities in the area, aviation, STEM and space accomplishments in the news and more. And of course I will also write about the exciting activities my aspiring aviators and other students will be taking part in throughout the year. Stop by and see what’s brewing, we always have something fun going on.
